Roy G. Perry, a Houston, Texas native, earned a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Prairie View A&M University in 1978. He is a Sloan Fellow and holds a master’s degree in management from Stanford University and a master’s degree in electrical engineering from Iowa State University.
Perry served in executive managerial roles at IBM, Allied Signal, Dell and StorageTek. Throughout his 30 year career, Mr. Perry mastered the engineering and manufacturing field, while developing an army of current and future engineering and manufacturing leaders. In addition to his corporate career, Mr. Perry has several entrepreneurial pursuits including product design, manufacturing and supply chain consulting. His expertise allows him to identify and drive operational improvements from any process where manpower, machines and methods are utilized. Mr. Perry is considered an expert at developing and building companies with dedicated focus on process discipline lean six sigma and quality excellence.
His most recent entrepreneurial role, he served as CEO of ThinIdentity Corporation, a start up focused on improving productivity, enhancement in the usage of electronic medical records and regulatory compliance in Healthcare.
Roy G Perry is currently serving as Chairman and President of Prairie View A&M Foundation. The Foundation’s mission is to raise funds for projects and programs that ensure continued excellence in all areas of the Prairie View A&M University including teaching, research, service and athletics.
Roy G Perry has earned several distinctions for engineering and leadership including “Outstanding Engineering Student of the Year” by Prairie View A&M University and the Texas Society of Professional Engineers in 1978, Black Enterprise Magazine called him a “Manufacturing Genius” for his accomplishments at Dell in 1999, in 2005 he earned recognition as “Black Engineer of the Year for Career Accomplishments,” “One of the 50 Most Important Blacks in Technology” by USBE magazine and “Superstar Award” from Frontline Solutions magazine. Additionally, Perry and his team were selected as Industry Week magazine’s “Best Plant in North America” in 2005.
As a community leader Perry has provided strategic counsel to numerous corporate boards and is active in several civic and community organizations. He has served as Chairman of the United Negro College Fund Drive for Central Texas, Board Member of Junior Achievement – Denver and Chairman and founding president of the 100 Black Men of Austin.
As a distinguished alumnus of PVAMU, he served on the university’s capital campaign cabinet and helped to reactivate its foundation. He is an advisor on the PVAMU College of Engineering’s Dean’s Advisory Board and the College’s Steering Committee helping to developing strategic relationships with the engineering, technology and the business communities. In recognition for his contributions to the university, the college and the field of engineering, the Texas A&M University System Board of Regents and the Prairie View A&M University Leadership approved the naming of the College, Roy G. Perry College of Engineering.
Mr. Perry resides in Austin. His son, Malcolm is an Eagle Scout and College Freshman.
